Edfu
Temple of Edfu, the large Ptolemaic period Temple of Horus, is one of the best preserved ancient temples in Egypt. It is dedicated to Horus, the sun-deity, who is usually depicted as a falcon or as a falcon-headed man. The temple was started in 237 BCE by Ptolemy III and completed almost two centuries later in 57 BCE by Ptolemy XII. A massive pylon standing approximately 108 ft high marks the entrance to the temple and is decorated with reliefs depicting Ptolemy XII fighting his enemies. The route to the temple was via horse-drawn carriage, not comfortable, but a means of transportation.
