Three Gorges Dam

The Three Gorges Dam is located almost in the middle of Xiling Gorge and is the world's largest and most powerful hydroelectric dam. It was constructed for several reasons including flood control, electrical production, and navigation. As the project was fully underway many towns & villages were move further up the hills and places of worship and cultural relics were reconfigured. It is said that over a million people have been relocated with many archeological sites submerged beneath the reservoir, flooded and are now under water.
