Katmai Bears-2007
Katmailand's Brooks Lodge, reached by float plane, is located in Katmai National Park which has the world's largest population of brown bears. Millions of salmon burst from the Bering Sea, migrating into the lakes and streams of Katmai National Park, where they make their way to spawn, and eventually die, at the place their lives began. These fish provide an abundant food source for the brown bears.
Katmailand's Brooks Lodge is the base for bear viewing at Brooks Falls, with about a 1 1/2 mile walk each way. Visitors are instructed by the National Park Service on how to conduct themselves in "Bear Country" before proceeding to the various platforms and eventually, Brooks Falls.
