Xi'an : Terracotta figures were discovered by local villagers in March 1974 when they were drilling for wells on a piece of barren land. They found fragments of terracotta warriors and many bronze weapons. In order to protect the find, a steel frame arched hall was built above the pit in 1976. The building now has good ventilation, is fireproof and burglarproof, and is humidity controlled t.o help protect the discovery. Every terracotta figure differs from those around in expressions and facial features, hand and arm gestures, style of clothing, and hairstyle.

Longji Rice Terraces : The Longji Terraces are located in Longsheng County about 2 hours from Guilin. The spectacular rice terraces have been carved into the hillsides over many centuries and are still farmed by several ethnic minority groups who make use of difficult terrain. The terraces sparkle as the sun reflects off the water creating an incredible sight. We were there in late Spring when most of the terraces had been planted but were filled with water from recent heavy rains. We spent the night in Ping'An Village so we could see the terraces in early morning sunlight that creates a golden glow. The terraces are ever changing with the seasons.

Shibaozhai Pagoda : Shibaozhai pagoda, which means Precious Stone Fortress, is a magnificent structure that majestically stands high above the Yangtze River and is visible from a great distance. The pagoda was built against a cragged mountain rock, so only three walls were man-made. The pagoda has round windows, which is unique for a pagoda, and creates a magical frame for the scenery below on the Yangtze River. The twelve story pagoda with its red wooden structure built entirely without nails, rises stunningly against a 100 foot high rock outcropping.

Jingzhou Viking School : Viking River Cruise Century Sun visited the primary school in Jingzhou sponsored by Viking. We were greeted by many students in a "band" playing instruments while others lined the walk onto the school grounds. Some of the students performed dance numbers for us, invited people up to the stage to dance, and then conducted us to their classroom. One of the students read a poem and then a cruiser lead the children and other cruisers in a spontaneous song in English. The students were very interested in my camera and wanted pictures taken with it as well as trying to use the camera. We were able to make contributions or give gifts to the school.

Three Gorges Dam : The Three Gorges Dam is located almost in the middle of Xiling Gorge and is the world's largest and most powerful hydroelectric dam. It was constructed for several reasons including flood control, electrical production, and navigation. As the project was fully underway many towns & villages were move further up the hills and places of worship and cultural relics were reconfigured. Snow Jade Cave & Fengdu Countryside : Fengdu is located on the northern bank of the Yangtze River, about 170km downstream from Southwest China's largest city, Chongqing . Fengdu is famous for the Snow Jade Cave (Xueyu Cave), where the stalactites in the caves are as white as snow and keep growing at about 33 millimeter every 100 years.
